The Magic of the In-Between

This past weekend I had the privilege to be the candid photographer at a beautiful wedding. Professionally this means that I get all of the fun with about 90% less stress. I get to sit back and observe and wait for the magic to happen. Wedding photos are pretty planned out, scripted. But many times I can find magic in the unscripted.

Such is with life. We can plan and plan, but really, when we sit back and think about our life’s journey, hasn’t much of the magic happened when things went not as expected? I love waiting for the in-between moments.

They are images of true story telling.

This wedding was full of them!

I am sure I didn’t cry as much at my own wedding, but there was just SO.MUCH.LOVE. It was truly beautiful. Steph and Dylan, you two share something magical. Thank you for letting me be an observer to that Magic.

Then and Now!

One of the coolest aspects of my job is working with return clients.

Last year, I photographed this little beauty’s newborn photos. I LOVE newborn sessions!

There is just a short time period that they are that small, that sleepy, that…well… new.

They grow and change so much in the first few months, and when this precious time is documented in photographs, you can look back at just how much they have changed.

Fast forward 12 months and she is sitting,

almost walking

and all about

“NoNoNoNo!”

She loves her dinosaurs and yogurt melts!

It is so fun to see the change!

It is so rewarding to document the growth and change in my clients!

I am truly blessed!

Some Senior Style Ideas!

Some Senior style ideas pulled from the style closet!

Something new for the Seniors of 2020 is the style closet I am creating in the studio! One of the main questions I get during the pre-consults is “What should we wear?” So, in addition to giving them my style guide, I am creating a collection of a variety of clothing. Does the senior have to utilize it? Absolutely not! But, if they see a garment in there that speaks to them, we can absolutely use it!

This morning after I was done with my headshot session, I had my lights still set up so I decided to play dress up with my mannequins to show some of the pieces I have.

(My Mannequin needs a name…..)

Sweet and Romantic! Can’t you picture this in a field of grass?

SO many of my seniors can wear this shirt! They are amazing! Available in yellow too!

If you are budget conscious, look at the next three images. One black skirt is made to look three very different ways. Consider a solid basic skirt in a black and we can make it play a variety of ways!!

Fun and playful!

15 years.

It has been 15 years today you left us.

It feels simultaneously like yesterday and a million years ago, however that is possible.

15 years since I was juggling the joy of a new-found pregnancy with grief of watching you fade away.

15 years since I watched you take your last breath, leaping into a place I can only imagine.

15 years since the sky dropped huge fluffy flakes of snow straight down in a deafening silence that I still remember.

15 years since I watched my Father carry you out and over the threshold he had once carried you in.

There is so much I didn’t know then, and so much I wish you now knew. LIke the path my life has taken, the adventure it has proven to be, but mostly our children.

You will never be more real than the people they read about in books. You will only be stories to them. They will never know you were the best hugger. They will never know how you appreciated jokes, and the more off-color the better, though you would pretend to be offended or shocked… we all knew better. They will never know how you can be small but so mighty at the same time.

They will never know that you were the best cheerleader anyone could ever have.

You will never know that my own path through motherhood has created so much I wish I could share with you. How I appreciate you in so many different ways than I could have possibly back then. I have so many questions, like how did you not ever just get in the car and keep driving… never to stop. There were 5 of us for God’s sake!!! I have only 3 and am barely maintaining sanity.

There are so many conversations that will never happen, and for that I still grieve….

I have friends with Moms up there with you… I hope you have all found each other, because we have found each other down here. We talk, we share, we cry…

You were the best, Mom. I hope you know that.

I hope you knew that.
