Day 288
It doesn't happen often, but when it does, there is a physical sensation that reverberates through my soul: the moment when I have captured magic.
Today was this young man's senior photo day. He wanted to start in uniform. As I looked through my camera and captured this, the "that's it!' feeling occurred.
It was in his eyes... the story that needs to be told. He, like so many young people, for each their own reasons, have signed up to serve this country of ours. This crazy little country, that seems about as stable and rational as hormonal teenager, is what they have chosen to protect and serve. While we can all sit and be keyboard warriors, jumping behind whichever view point we wish, there exists young men and women, who, everyday answer the call to sign up and defend us.
Wow.
Just Wow..... I am humbled and grateful for young men like Jared.

Day 287
Dusk on the open plains of North Dakota. The harvest air gives the most beautiful hues to sunsets during this time of the year. It will soon be the monochromatic season of winter, so I will continue to soak up the glorious colors of autumn.

Day 286
I have known Squish since he was in his Momma's tummy. And TODAY he happens to be THREE!! Happy Birthday to a funny, super cutie who is so so loved! I am reminded how very lucky I am to capture moments in peoples lives... small moments that can live on through images.
Thanks Squish!

Day 285
It is that time of year the big green machines roll. I don't know if other parts of the country realize how hard farmers work, and how much they rely on these farms without even knowing it. It's all a big crap shoot every year. Plan and plan, hope for the best, plan for the worst and pray that hail, drought or torrential rains do not ruin your entire year.
And they do it again, and again... year after year.
I saw this on the web today, and it is true: "If you ate today, thank a farmer."

Day 284
And just like that, he is 7... with a sinking Titanic and Edmund Fitzgerald on his cake....
I love this guy!!

Day 283
The first hard freeze of the season. It's beauty will bring about destructive change.
Things will go dormant, and dormancy is necessary to rest.
To recover.
To grow anew.

Day 282
It has been fun to watch these boys play their first season as HiLiners. This 7th grade team has grown and come together. It will be awesome to see them progress through the years, becoming HiLiner Strong.
